Globetrot Quiz is a free set of geography quizzes: maps, flags, capitals and the size of countries, with a quiz of the day and 180 numbered expeditions. It works in English, Italian, Hungarian and Finnish, on phones and on desktop, and it asks for nothing: no account, no e-mail address, no download.
Every round is made from a seed. The same seed gives the same questions on every device, which is how the quiz of the day and the expeditions are the same for everyone. Your progress, scores and passport stamps stay in your own browser.
Data sources and licences
The quiz is only as good as its data, so here is where every piece comes from.
- Map and borders — Natural Earth, Admin 0 countries at 1:110 million and 1:50 million, version 5.1.2. (Public domain) www.naturalearthdata.com
- Flags — flag-icons 7.6.0 by Panayiotis Lipiridis. The licence text is published with the flag files. (MIT) /hold/flags/LICENSE-flag-icons.txt
- Country names — Unicode CLDR 48 (Common Locale Data Repository), in English, Italian, Hungarian and Finnish. (Unicode License v3) www.unicode.org/license.txt
- Capitals and their coordinates — Wikidata; the English names and a sample in each other language checked by hand. (CC0 1.0) www.wikidata.org
- Population and area — Source: World Bank, World Development Indicators: population 2025 (SP.POP.TOTL) and surface area 2023 (AG.SRF.TOTL.K2), data retrieved in October 2026. (CC BY 4.0) data.worldbank.org
Borders and names
Borders are drawn as they are on the ground, following Natural Earth, and take no position in any dispute. Disputed and non-independent territories appear in neutral grey without a name and are never asked about. Country names follow the Unicode CLDR forms, with a few small changes for clarity (for example DR Congo and Republic of the Congo instead of the city names in brackets).
Licences
Natural Earth data is in the public domain. Flags are used under the MIT licence of flag-icons. Country names come from Unicode CLDR under the Unicode License. Wikidata content is CC0. World Bank data is used under CC BY 4.0; figures are shown as published.
