Ads in marked spaces
Every mode, today’s quiz and each of the 180 expeditions are free of charge to you. Hosting, the domain name and the long evenings spent checking capitals and flags are covered by advertising. Ads go only on text pages, such as the departures board, the lists of expeditions, the region pages and the guides, and each one sits in a box labelled “Advertisement”.
We are connecting Google AdSense. Until it is switched on, those boxes show our own notice instead of an ad, and the notice links back to this page. Nothing in them is loaded from another company.
Sponsored expeditions
A company or an organisation can also sponsor one expedition or a series of them. A sponsored expedition says so openly, in a line marked “Sponsored by…” with the sponsor’s name, placed outside the quiz panel. The route, the questions, the answers and the scoring stay the same for everyone, and a sponsor cannot change them.
There are no sponsors yet. When the first one arrives, its name will appear only on the expeditions it supports.
What we will never do to pay for the trip
- Put ads inside the quiz panel, over the map or on top of the answer buttons.
- Sell advantages: no paid hints, extra time or bonus points. Everyone plays the same quiz.
- Sell or hand over visitor data. Your progress stays in your browser, as the privacy page explains.
- Use pop-ups or full-screen ads that stop a round halfway.
Advertise or sponsor an expedition
To place an ad or sponsor an expedition, write to hello@globetrotquiz.com. Two or three lines will do: your company, and the expedition or page you have your eye on. Every ad and every sponsor has to suit a geography quiz that people of all ages play.
