Name the highlighted country

The map zooms to a country lit in yellow. Four names, one of them right.

Countries
Difficulty

Here the map does the pointing and you do the naming. One country glows in yellow, the map moves in close enough to see it with some of its neighbours, and four names appear below. Tiny states get a ring around them so they cannot hide between the borders.

It sounds easier than finding a country, and on the Easy level it is. On Hard the wrong options are the nearest neighbours of the right answer, so you are choosing between four countries that share borders or a stretch of sea, and the shape of the coast suddenly matters.

How it works

Tips from the window seat

Questions travellers ask

How are the wrong options chosen?

On Easy they are well-known countries from other parts of the world, on Medium countries of the same continent, and on Hard the closest neighbours of the right answer.

Why is there a ring around some countries?

States that are too small to see at that zoom are marked with a ring, so you know where to look.

Are disputed territories ever highlighted?

No. They are drawn in neutral grey, carry no name and are never part of a question or an answer.

Does the language change the questions?

No, only the names. You can switch the page language in the middle of a round and carry on with the same questions.
