Expedition #1040 stays in Europe at the Medium level: three legs, 15 questions and 15 different countries along the way. It opens with Find the country (4 questions), carries on with Capitals (5 questions) and lands with Flags (6 questions).

• In the map leg you tap 4 countries; a miss shows the right one and how far away you were.
• The capitals leg alternates: 5 questions, country to capital and back again.
• The flags leg shows 6 flags and asks for their countries; 6 different flags pass in front of you.

The Medium setting widens the pool and keeps the wrong answers on the same continent: neighbours are not far away.

The full route, drawn from capital to capital as the questions come, measures 17,380 km: 14 hops in all.

Tips from the window seat

• Find the country: Read the distance after a miss: it tells you how close you were.
• Capitals: Say the pair in both directions in your head after each answer.
• Flags: Look for the small details: a star, a crescent, an emblem.
